Positive Voltage Doubling Circuit using ICL7660 Voltage Doubler

The ICL7660 CMOS Voltage Converter can be connected to function as voltage doublers in order to generate output voltage. The schematic herein appears positive voltage doubling circuit using the ICL7660.

In this circuit, the pump inverter switches of the ICL7660 is used to charge C1 to a voltage level of the supply voltage (V+) and the forward voltage drop (Vf) of diode D1. Voltage on C1 plus the supply voltage is applied through diode D2 to capacitor C2. And the source resistance of the output will depend on the output current.

Hood Louver Driver Circuit Diagram using IC LM393

The following schematic shows Hood Louver Driver Circuit Diagram using IC LM393. This circuit uses an LM393 op-amp comparator (U1) to monitor the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage. As seen in the diagram, the output of the LM393 drives a high-current PNP transistor (Q2), which turns on/off the hood louver solenoid relay.

As also stated in the LM393 datasheet, the advantages of LM393 are High precision comparators, Compatible with all forms of logic, Power drain suitable for battery operation, Reduced Vos drift over temperature, and more.

ICL7660/ICL7660A Voltage Splitting Circuit Diagram

Splitting a higher supply in a half using ICL7660 and or ICL7660A in bidirectional characteristic is shown in the following circuit diagram. The combined load will be evenly shared between the two sides.

With this voltage splitting and then a cascading ICL7660 and ICL7660A circuit, +15V can be converted to -15V.

CD4538B Rapid Power Down Protection Circuit Diagram and Datasheet

There is a rapid power-down condition when a power supply short circuit or when there is a poorly filtered power supply. CD4538B series CMOS Dual Precision Monostable Vibrator has the Power-Down Mode feature to avoid possible device damage in this mode.

As seen in the circuit diagram, in such mentioned condition above, the energy stored in Cx could discharge into Pin 2 or 14 of the CD4538B IC. In order to avoid device damage when Cx is bigger than 0.5uF, a 1A or higher (1N5395 or equivalent) of protection diode and a separate ground return for Cx should be provided.
