Inductive Spiking and Diode Clamp in Switching Circuit
Inductive loads can lead to significant voltage spikes in some switching circuits.
The MOSFET circuit shown in the following diagram is circuit for demonstrating inductive spiking and the use of diode clamps.
You may build the circuit in the above figure using 2N7000 transistor, and here is the transistor datasheet. First, you can leave out the diode clamp and adjust the frequency of the input signal to 100kHz then record the waveforms. Try replace the 100 Ohm load resistance with 220 Ohm resistor to know the peak voltage in this case, then add the diode clamp (a 1N4005/1N4148) and check how does the output voltage change?
