National LM386 Audio Power Amplifier Datasheet for Battery Operation

If you need a power amplifier especially designed for use in low voltage consumer applications to be applied in such Low Distortion Power Wienbridge Oscillator Circuit Diagram your AM-FM radio amplifiers, Portable tape player amplifiers, TV sound systems, and etc you may consider LM386 Low Voltage Audio Power Amplifier. This device has 24 milliwatts quiescent power drain when operating from 6 V supply in which making the LM386 ideal for battery operation.

It is stated in the application hints section of LM386 datasheet, there are two pins (1 and 8 ) provided for gain control in order to make this device more versatile amplifier. You can put a capacitor from pin 1 to 8 bypassing the 1.35 kOhms resistor, placing a resistor in series with the capacitor, or capacitively coupling a resistor (or FET) from pin 1 to ground to set the gain.
